McCarthy the top QB in NFL draft: Harbaugh

-

New Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh reiterated that J.J. McCarthy is the best quarterback in an NFL draft class that's expected to see Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye selected before him.

Harbaugh and McCarthy led Michigan to a national championship last season, so the coach knows the QB better than most.

“They could be adulating J.J. or being booed or being hit, and then this killer comes out,” Harbaugh said. “Whether it's good, whether it's bad, he's got an extra gear, especially when he's being challenged. And you also see the big personality and (he'll) do anything for another guy on the team. ... He's incredible. Big market, small market, cold weather, hot weather — it wouldn't matter. I've said it before, I think he's the best quarterback in the draft. That's my opinion. There's great quarterbacks in the draft. He's the one who plays quarterback the best.”

Mother Nature has halted a baseball game, even in a retractable-roof stadium in the middle of a desert.

The Arizona Diamondbacks' pre-season game against Cleveland was called after six innings Monday when an unexpected rainstorm hit Chase Field.

Because of ongoing mechanical issues, the retractable roof at Chase Field can't be opened or closed with fans in attendance. The weather in Phoenix was mostly pleasant on Monday, which led to the roof being open, but the unexpected storm sent fans scrambling.

LeBron James sat out the Los Angeles Lakers' game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night because of an issue with his left ankle. It was the 10th NBA game James has missed this season.

The four-time most valuable player also didn't play in the Lakers' other matchup with the Bucks this season because of an ankle problem. The Lakers still won that game 123-122 on March 8 in Los Angeles.

Major League Soccer and its referees announced a seven-year labour contract Tuesday, ending a 37-day lockout that led to the use of replacement officials.

The Professional Referee Organization and the Professional Soccer Referees Association (PSRA) said they had ratified an agreement reached last week that runs until Jan. 31, 2031. The PSRA has about 260 members.

Replacement officials were used in the first five weeks of the season, drawing some criticism.

Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy isn't concerned about entering the final year of his contract without an extension.

“I don't see it as more pressure,” McCarthy said. “I think it's just the reality of our industry. You can't lose sight of the big picture.”

Dallas has won 12 games three straight NFL seasons, but is only 1-3 in the playoffs.
