How can chiropractic care help you achieve your health and wellness goals?

Explore the benefits of adding a chiropractor to your health-care regimen

In the pursuit of a healthier lifestyle, whether it involves managing or eliminating pain, reducing stress or improving physical fitness, your wellness goals should make it easier to engage in everyday activities and maintain an active lifestyle.

Incorporating chiropractic care can be an effective, hands-on, holistic approach to wellness and play a significant role in the prevention, assessment, diagnosis, management and treatment of musculoskeletal (MSK) related conditions affecting the spine, muscle and nervous system.

B.C. chiropractors are highly educated MSK experts, with over 4,200 hours of core competency training in the musculoskeletal system and seven to eight years of post-secondary education, according to the British Columbia Chiropractic Association (BCCA), a voluntary professional organization that represents B.C.’S chiropractors.

“As chiropractors, we practice with an evidence-based approach that helps patients achieve excellent outcomes, which builds trust and referrals through friends and family or other health-care practitioners,” says Dr. Eric Vermander, a chiropractor at Vitae Health & Sport in North Vancouver.

Chiropractors recommend a course of treatment to help relieve pain and improve function, which may include manipulation, soft tissue therapy, exercise, modalities (ultrasound and laser, among others), rehabilitation and patient education.

Dr. Vermander often combines Active Release Technique (ART) and exercise to treat spine, muscle, nerve, bone and joint problems, and helps keep patients pain-free and moving with individualized treatment plans.

“We provide an easy-to-follow strategy to help patients achieve their goals, with function and mobility as a priority, as well as balance and alignment in the spine and joints.”

To alleviate pressure on B.C.’S primary health-care system, which is currently under stress, chiropractors work collaboratively with primary care providers and other health-care professionals. Since a chiropractor can diagnose and treat a wide range of MSK conditions (a referral is not required), patients don’t have to wait to see their family physician, and the earlier you see a chiropractor, the greater the chance for a full recovery.

“We know that working together as a health-care team to manage injuries or chronic conditions provides a lot of benefits,” adds Dr. Vermander.

Chiropractors practice in almost every community in B.C., including rural and remote regions that are often understaffed with primary care providers. This provides a prime opportunity for people to find chiropractors that can help them reach their health-care goals.

“It’s important to ask your chiropractor questions, be involved in your treatment plan and health-care process,” says Dr. Vermander.
