Earth Day fashion finds

-

Earth Day is on April 22. Designated as a day to remember “the importance of environmental conservation and sustainability,” it's the perfect time to consider ways to do better by the planet — ahem, like recycle, reduce and reuse. With an eye for finding greener options, Aleesha Harris has rounded up five fashion items that represent a slower, more meaningful style selection. From a stylish vest to wear-everywhere jeans, here are a few favourites.

A topper that could be worn for years to come, this Le 31 Denim Harrington jacket from Simons uses a denim material made from recycled cotton and polyester, along with a viscose enhanced with Circulose. The raw material is made using either end-of-life garments or post-industrial textile waste, according to the retailer, for a reduced environmental impact and a circular fashion effect.

Made using Leather Working Group-certified, chrome free and vegetable tanned leather, the slow-fashion style also boasts water-based glues and inks and recycled paper packaging for a start-to-finish sustainability consideration.

DENIM DELIGHT

A tailored pair of black jeans can work overtime in your wardrobe. These Nina Wide Leg Jeans will do just that thanks to an effortless relaxed fit and an unembellished design. Plus, these wear-everywhere jeans boast a sustainable spin with the recyclable “circular denim” material made from salvaged fibres and a “hydro-less process” that's said to save up to 95 per cent more water than usual denim materials.
