The Maker fragrances inspired by travel fantasies

- ALEESHA HARRIS

It's not every day you hear about a fragrance collection born from a hotel. But that's precisely the origin story of The Maker.

A fusion of “bohemian sensibility” and “sustainable practices,” according to co-founder Lev Glazman, the lifestyle fragrance brand is an extension of the award-winning hotel by the same name in Hudson, N.Y. Offering unisex fragrances, The Maker recently arrived in Canada at Sephora, so we caught up with Glazman to learn more.

Q For those who aren't familiar, what is The Maker?

A The Maker is a lifestyle fragrance brand that started as a hotel. Our aim is to fuse bohemian sensibility with sustainable practices to create a complete transportive experience that ignites imagination and aspirations. The scents and spaces awaken the senses, inspiring you to become the ultimate maker of your own sensuality.

Q What makes it unique?

A The Maker was created as a highly curated hotel that celebrates art and design, welcoming all sorts of makers. No room is like the other and each offers its own unique story ... The Maker was born through hospitality but now transcends into fragrance that expresses the sensibility of these bespoke spaces, in hopes of inspiring guests to discover, fantasize and dream.

Q Who is the target customer?

A Our customer is someone who genuinely loves fragrances that are unique, alternative and an innovative expression of the scents. We are genderless and meant for the enthusiasts curious to explore different offerings and further enhance their personality and individuality. We aim to serve those who care for our planet as we are inherently clean and sustainable, being one of the few fragrance brands out there that can truly speak to sustainability in all ways, from packaging to formulation, being a certified clean fragrance brand.

Q What inspires the scents?

A I am deeply inspired by travel fantasies. People come to The Maker and create their own memories and fantasies, so each one of the fragrances represents a memory that guests can take away with them from the hotel. Q What is the price range for the fragrances? A Our 10 millilitre eau de parfums are offered at $57 and our 50 mm at $236. Our candles are offered at $108.

Q And where can people check them out?

A We have just launched exclusively with Sephora Canada. You can shop online at Sephora.ca. Aharris@postmedia.com
