Celebrity style comes to city with Badgley Mischka trunk show
When you think about event dressing, fashion brand Badgley Mischka likely comes to mind.
A mainstay in the market of all things party, wedding and gala since its launch in 1988, the brand has dressed some of the biggest stars in the business including Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and Jennifer Lopez.
The designers behind the brand, Mark Badgley and James Mischka, will be bringing their gowns, ready-to-wear and shoes to Holt Renfrew Vancouver for a trunk show from May 2-6.
The shopping event will also feature an appearance from the duo on May 4 from 2 to 4 p.m.
In advance of the event, we caught up with Badgley and Mischka by email to learn more:
Q For those who aren't familiar, what is Badgley Mischka?
A Badgley Mischka is the brand that we founded in 1988. We started the collection with 12 little black dresses and one red one; we have since been lucky enough to become the “go-to” brand for socialites and celebrities for the most important days of their lives and any time they want to feel beautiful and powerful. The collection ranges from day to evening, and includes wonderful accessories — especially our shoes.
Our clients include Helen Mirren, Jennifer Lopez, Kate Winslet, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Madonna, Dr. Jill Biden, Oprah, America Ferrera, Brooke Shields, Julia Roberts, Gillian Anderson, Sharon Stone, Carrie Underwood and countless others.

A We think that women gravitate to Badgley Mischka because we make them feel strong and beautiful. Our clothes always have a feeling of Old Hollywood glamour, whether they are for a gala or for gardening — there is a modern heirloom feeling to everything that we design.
What makes it unique? Q How has event and gala dressing evolved since the brand began?
A It is funny how, through all of the changes in fashion and in the world, the most important things remain the same: looking glamorous and feeling comfortable. Glamour always works, and feeling at ease and empowered by that brings it home.
Q As experts in event wear, any tips to style the perfect look?
A In addition to choosing an outfit that you love, please be sure that the fit is good — the most gorgeous gown is not the best choice if it doesn't fit well, and a “just OK” dress can be magical if it is fitted perfectly.
Q Lastly, what can shoppers expect from the upcoming trunk show in Vancouver?
A We are bringing our spring 2024 clothing and footwear collections to Holt Renfrew Vancouver, with a multitude of options for day to cocktail to full-on gala evenings. If you have someplace special to go, or even if you just might, we have something for you from head-to-toe.
