Pfeiffer brings fragrance collection to Canada

- ALEESHA HARRIS Aharris@postmedia.com

Michelle Pfeiffer founded her fragrance company Henry Rose in 2019 with a goal of shaking up the scent industry.

Eager to offer a greener alternative, the Golden Globe Award-winning actor set out to secure ingredient transparency, sustainable packaging and really good scents with her collection. Recently launched in Canada at Sephora, we caught up with Pfeiffer to learn more.

Q For those who aren't familiar, what is Henry Rose?

A Henry Rose is a genderless fine fragrance brand that creates complex scent experiences and challenges fragrance industry norms by disclosing 100 per cent of its ingredients.

The line includes 12 unique Eau de Parfums as well as body products, including body sprays and body creams.

Q What makes it unique?

A There is so much that makes Henry Rose unique. I started the brand because of the lack of ingredient disclosure and regulation in the fragrance industry, which has historically been shrouded in mystery. Many people don't realize that the word “fragrance” can be listed as a catch-all term on a product label, yet contain any number of 3,000 different ingredient components.

Because these formulas are considered trade secrets, they are exempt from disclosure. This isn't limited to just fine fragrance, but all products that contain fragrance, including personal care and home care products.

I first discovered this loophole when I became a new mother and started searching for safer product alternatives for myself and my family. I spent years searching for a fragrance that was both transparent with its ingredients and matched the high quality that I loved, but kept coming up short. This is what sparked the idea for Henry Rose, and the long and arduous journey that followed.

Q Is there a hero fragrance in the collection?

A Torn was the very first fragrance we developed and it holds a special place in my heart.
