Fisherman sandals are trendy again, so dip your toes in

-

It seems like it was only a matter of time before we'd see the resurgence of fisherman sandals — that woven, closedtoe style that was last ubiquitous in the '90s — but here we are: they're back again. Whether you go for a super-luxe designer version — of which there are many — or a cheap-and-cheerful pair that you'll be hoping will last the season, there are plenty of options out there. Rebecca Tay presents pairs that all feel fresh for spring.

STURDY SOLES

If you prefer sandals that are tough and sturdy rather than toss-in-yourbeach-bag flimsy, Dr. Martens' version of fisherman sandals — aptly named Wrenlie and available in a dark brown shade called Grizzly — should appeal to you. But don't let that keep you from wearing them with tea dresses and feminine floral pieces: there's nothing better than a bit of style juxtaposition. Dr. Martens, drmartens.com | $195

PUDDLE JUMPERS

Contrary to their name, most modern fisherman sandals aren't actually suitable for fishing — or even water. Not so with this Possession pair by Melissa, a brand known for its rubber, jelly and otherwise waterproof styles. Best of all, even though they're super practical for a rainy spring, their black hue is sleek enough to make them versatile and great with both casual and dressier ensembles alike.

SPANISH STEPS

Fans of Loewe and, indeed, Jonathan Anderson himself, are about as diehard as it gets — and, honestly, we can't disagree. Creative, conceptual, excellent quality and always wearable, the brand can seemingly do no wrong. Perhaps that's why, though these Campo brushed suede sandals are eye-wateringly expensive, we have no doubt there'll be legions of people wearing them this season. Team with skirts, jeans and everything in between.

WOVEN WONDER

Anyone who's ever worn a pair of ancient Greek sandals will know how well they wear even after a summer spent in sand and sea. The same should be true for this Homeria style, made from woven raffia, with the cut-outs and ankle strap typical of a fisherman sandal, and a more modern, almond-shaped toe. OH, MIUCCIA

Prada — and its sister label, Miu Miu — has been on the up-up-up for the past few seasons. From its classic upside-down triangle logo plate to styles such as these rubber Monolith sandals, the brand is popping up everywhere. Not sure how to wear these? Why, with '90s-era pedal pushers, of course. Prada, prada.com | $1,120
