Ro­ck­land Nats win big in sea­son home ope­ner!

The Ro­ck­land Na­tio­nals Ju­nior A team brought down the house with a 3-1 vic­to­ry over the Na­van Grads du­ring their home ope­ner on Fri­day, Sep­tem­ber 8 at the CIH Are­na. Some 1200 fans came out to sup­port the Nats in what was their first home ope­ner in 41 years.

To ce­le­brate the oc­ca­sion, players from the 1967 na­tio­nal-cham­pion team, coa­ched by for­mer head coach Bryan Mur­ray, were present for a pre-game ce­re­mo­ny and puck drop.

Con­nor Beat­ty sco­red two goals for the Nats, while Jean-Sé­bas­tien Boyer se­cu­red the win with a third-per­iod goal. Nats goal­ten­der Sean Storr stop­ped 20 out of 21 shots of the game. The win places the Ro­ck­land Na­tio­nals in sole pos­ses­sion of se­cond place in the CCHL.

Se­ve­ral players from the na­tio­nal-cham­pion team of 1967 were present for a pre­game ce­re­mo­ny and puck drop. A mo­ment of si­lence was ta­ken to ho­nor for­mer head coach Bryan Mur­ray who pas­sed away in Au­gust. Ro­ck­land Coun­cil­lor Jean-Marc La­londe and CCHL Com­mis­sio­ner Ke­vin Abrams were among­st the people present du­ring the ce­re­mo­ny to in­tro­duce these players.

The Nats then had a chance at a re­match against the Na­van Grads on Sun­day, Sep­tem­ber 10 for the Grads home ope­ner, in which the Na­tio­nals fell 6-5 to the Grads. The Nats will take on the Ka­na­ta La­sers in an away game on Sun­day, Sep­tem­ber 17 at 2:30 p.m.
