“I be­lieve we ac­com­pli­shed a lot.”

Guy Des­jar­dins sums up his first four years as mayor of Cla­rence-Ro­ck­land. Des­jar­dins is see­king to re­tain his seat on coun­cil on Oc­to­ber 22, 2018.

Des­jar­dins’ ca­reer in po­li­tics be­gan in 2006, when he suc­cess­ful­ly ran for a seat on coun­cil. “I have a back­ground in agri­cul­ture and I no­ti­ced at the time that there we­ren’t any agri­cul­tu­ral voices on coun­cil,” he sta­ted du­ring an in­ter­view.

These in­clude, ac­cor­ding to the mayor, the ma­na­ge­ment of the 2017 flood, the re­pairs made to Cla­rence-Ro­ck­land’s ma­ny roads as well as the pro­ject for the two new fire sta­tions.

“Al­though the floo­ding that oc­cur­red last year was tru­ly a di­sas­ter, I think our ans­wer to it was a real suc­cess,” said the mayor. “The way mem­bers of our com­mu­ni­ty came for­ward and hel­ped each other out was in­cre­dible. It was real team­work!”

8IFO BTLFE XIBU IF JOUFOET UP BDDPN­plish if he’s re-elec­ted, the mayor is quick to point to “an emer­gen­cy room for Cla­ren­ceRo­ck­land.” “If you hap­pen to get ve­ry sick over the wee­kend, we have to go all the way to Ot­ta­wa,” he ex­plai­ned. “Our me­di­cal centre here is ama­zing, but they’re quite bu­sy.”

Des­jar­dins hopes to ob­tain go­vern­men­tal fun­ding for the pro­ject. “It would al­so help us keep our am­bu­lances in our re­gion.”

He al­so wants to suc­cess­ful­ly ac­com­plish what he calls the 17/174 pro­ject, the wi­de­ning of the 174 high bet­ween Or­leans and Ro­ck­land. “The mat­ter has been de­ba­ted for over 20 years,” he said.

Last­ly, the mayor wants to keep taxes low. “I want to en­hance our com­mer­cial de­ve­lop­ment,” he ad­ded. “I want to get more com­mer­cial pro­jects. That will help us keep our taxes low.”
