Numerous charges after Preston shooting

- Liz Monteiro, Record staff

The 65-year-old Cambridge man who faces a charge of attempted murder after five shots were fired at a Preston home last week appeared briefly in a Kitchener courtroom Wednesday morning.

David Antonison sat in the prisoner’s box in handcuffs as he listened to his lawyer Bernard Cummins request a bail hearing for a later date.

Antonison, dressed in a white T-shirt and grey pants, remains in custody.

A publication ban prohibits the publication of any evidence or information.

In addition to attempted murder, Antonison faces up to 12 charges. Eight of them were added on Wednesday.

He is also charged with discharging a firearm with intent to wound, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, pointing a firearm, weapons dangerous and numerous charges related to unsafe storage of a firearm and ammunition.

The shooting occurred Nov. 2 when gunshots rocked the neighbourhood at about 8:30 a.m. as students were heading to school.

Police received a 911 call from a resident at a house on Eagle Street near Vine Street who said the home was hit by gunfire.

A man was seen walking down the street when shots were fired. Five bullet holes were found at the home.

People were in the house at the time, but no one was injured, police said.

Police arrested a man shortly after the shots were fired.

Police officers, including the emergency response team, had descended on the quiet neighbourhood and blocked off a section of Eagle Street for part of the morning.

Nearby schools in the area were notified and told by police to go into a hold-and-secure procedure, which doesn’t allow students or parents to come in and out of the school.
