A ruthless regime

Re: Popular notion of Putin as evil genius — Dec. 5

I couldn’t believe what I was reading in the opinion piece by Thomas Walkom, whose head is firmly buried in sand on the subject of Putin and the Russian state. Is he part of Putin’s propaganda machine or just addicted to money over ethics?

Putin’s regime is dangerous in its ability to corrupt others and its ruthlessness and naked greed. Putin is a murderer and a man without regard to the rights and freedoms of anyone, particularly those who want a different vision for Russia. Putin admires Stalin, a man who was a butcher of his people.

I’m glad we have the Magnitsky Act as for too long Russian criminals have had money laundered through Canadian companies. I want to live in a country which doesn’t worship money over harming the rights and freedoms of the citizens of the world. Many Russian people are manipulated by Putin’s lies. It is those people I feel most sorry for. Let’s not allow ourselves to be manipulated, too. Sandra Peers Waterloo
