If the mostly teens and some very young adults who play for the Soo Greyhounds are using racist, derogatory, hurtful language on the ice, it is because their role model coaches, sponsors, suppliers and owners condone it. OHL commissioner David Branch should step up and follow the lead of NBA commissioner Adam Silver who, in 2014, investigated an NBA team owner and found that his racist language was “deeply offensive and harmful.” The owner was banned for life from any business with the league and was fined the maximum amount allowed under the NBA constitution at $2.5 million.
