WATERLOO — The KitchenerWaterloo Titans have signed Akeem Ellis for the upcoming National Basketball of League Canada season.

The six-foot-six, 215-pound forward is a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., and a former standout at Coppin State (NCAA DI).

He is entering his sixth season of professional basketball and his third in NBL Canada, after stints with Brampton (formerly the A’s), and the Island Storm in 2014-15 and 2015-16, respectively.

It was in Brampton where Ellis developed a bond as a teammate of Titans head coach Cavell Johnson and current players Flenard Whitfield and Ashton Smith.

“I’m excited to be back in Canada and reunite with my former teammates,” said Ellis in a news release.

“Flen (Whitfield), Ashton (Smith), and I are like brothers, and we all have great respect and admiration for coach Cavell. I’ve heard great things about Kitchener-Waterloo, and I’m ready to do my part to help build a winning culture for the Titans and our fans.”

Johnson is confident Ellis will be a great addition to the group.

“Akeem brings a winner’s mentality and great energy to the team,” he said.

“He creates a matchup problem for other teams with his ability to stretch the floor offensively, but he also guards positions one through four with tenacity.”

Meanwhile, the Titans have released Americans Tyron Criswell, Morgan Lewis, Aaron Jackson and Canadian Abednego Lufile from the training camp roster.

The final roster will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

The Titans tip off the regular season at the Aud on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m..

Season and single-game tickets can be purchased at 1-800-2658977 or at the Activa box office at the Aud.
