Police issue warning about Apple iTunes scam

-

Police are warning the public after receiving a number of fraud reports from people who thought they were dealing with Apple iTunes. In the past two months, nine reports have been made to Waterloo Regional Police by victims. In many of the cases, the victims first got an email from a fake Apple Inc. account, which falsely informed the recipients a purchase had been made through their Apple account or app. Others were told their account had been compromised. The victims responded to the email and were told to purchase iTunes gift cards and provide the numbers on the back of the cards. The victims lost more than $9,000 in total from the scam.
