Driver killed in Alpine plaza crash is 40-year-old Kitchener man

KITCHENER — The driver of an SUV who struck the front of a Kitchener LCBO store and rolled over Friday is a 40-year-old Kitchener man.

Waterloo Regional Police said the man died instantly in the crash at the Alpine Centre plaza near Ottawa Street South and Homer Watson Boulevard at about 4:30 p.m.

Police said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. Police said the driver was travelling north in the parking lot when he lost control and crashed into the store. He was the lone occupant in the vehicle.

No one was injured in the store.

Police said the family has asked that the man’s name not be released.

The LCBO store was closed and police asked traffic to avoid the area for several hours Friday night.
