Time to take the torch
Re: Canada is failing to fight climate change — April 3
My nephew, the late Rob Stewart, made the environmental documentaries “Sharkwater” and “Revolution.” Many people have told me how much Rob’s films made them care about saving our planet. There are certain things governments and citizens need to do to achieve this goal. Voting against climate change deniers is one of them. Conservatives like Andrew Scheer in Ottawa and Premier Doug Ford in Ontario keep us heading for the cliff. Their right-wing ideology is dooming us.
My nephew’s goal was to inspire the public to speak truth to power. The last time I saw him was at Christmas dinner 2016 and he told me that he believed if enough people pursued the truth about our environment, then we could save life on Earth. I recalled my memories of him after I read my sister’s email to me on Feb. 1, 2017, to say that Rob was lost at sea. Rob drowned at age 37 filming his third environmental documentary. He passed the torch to us. Will we be smart enough and care enough to take it before it is too late for our grandchildren?
