Two COVID-19 vaccination clinic locations announced
WATERLOO REGION — Two large COVID-19 vaccination clinics will be in Cambridge and Waterloo, the first opening early next month for seniors age 80 and older.
The Region of Waterloo announced on Friday that the public-health clinics will be located at: á 435 The Boardwalk, Medical Centre 2, Waterloo á Rona, 66 Pinebush Rd., Cambridge
The clinic at The Boardwalk will open its doors in early March for adults 80 and older, who have been recently added as a priority population to the first phase of the province’s vaccine rollout.
The former Rona store location in Cambridge will open after modifications are made to allow the site to operate as a clinic.
Waterloo Regional Police Deputy Chief Shirley Hilton, who is heading the region’s vaccine distribution task force, said the group is grateful to the partners and community groups supporting the vaccine rollout.
SmartCentres, the landlord for Rona, is offering
the vacant space for free to help get more people vaccinated as quickly as possible.
“Residents of the community will be directed to the most appropriate and accessible clinic using a regional booking system through which they can preregister according to their eligibility for the vaccine,” Hilton said.
The region launched a vaccine registration site earlier this week for highpriority groups eligible to be vaccinated in the first phase.
As vaccine supply stabilizes, more small to midsize clinics will open across the region in primary
care offices, pharmacies and other community locations.
Large public-health clinics are one of five types of clinics that will be offered in the region. Currently vaccines are being given at the Grand River Hospital site and by mobile clinics.
As vaccine supply grows in the coming months, the two large locations will play an important role in the region’s target of delivering 10,000 or more doses each day.
