Triple gold for Shadd-Ceres

Cameron Heights track star also sets all-Ontario record in junior girls long jump

TORONTO Trinity Shadd-Ceres of Cameron Heights and Nicholas Tozer of Forest Heights turned in outstandin­g performanc­es at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associatio­ns track and field championsh­ip at York University.

Shadd-Ceres came home with three gold medals in her OFSAA debut, and Tozer, a newcomer to track, won two golds and a silver.

Shadd-Ceres didn’t take long to make her presence felt, winning the junior girls long jump on Thursday and establishi­ng a new OFSAA record of 6.08 metres. The previous record, set in 2017, was 5.84.

She then won Friday’s 100-metre dash in 12.15 seconds and on Saturday won the 200m race in 24.38.

Tozer, who took up hurdling in April, won the junior boys 100m hurdles in 14.06 seconds and later Friday won silver in the 100m dash in 11.29 seconds. Jacob Hespeler’s

Chase Judge took bronze in the 100m race.

Tozer collected his second gold on Saturday in the 300m hurdles, winning in 39.24.

The Jacob Hespeler junior boys 4x100-metre relay team of Kelsey Wilson, Gevontae Agyare, Jason Rudahusa and Judge also struck gold.

The boys finished in 45.01 seconds to edge Windsor Sandwich at the finish line.

The St. Mary’s team of Andrew Myers, Jordan Williams, Nickolas Arias and Chris Jackson was fifth. Jackson won bronze in the 400m race in 51.90.

Dominik Bahadur of Resurrecti­on struck gold in the novice boys 100m hurdles in 13.94 seconds and was fourth in the novice boys 200m race. Deinma Tomlin of Woodland Christian was sixth in the 200.

Laura Beech of KCI won the girls 800m ambulatory and was third in the 100.

Andrew Corbeil of Monsignor Doyle was third in the novice boys 3,000m race in 9:19.66.

Landon Reuter of St. David won silver in the junior boys 800m in 2:01.33 and was sixth in the 1,500m.

Leah Halley of Laurel Heights won bronze in the novice girls pole vault with a 2.65m effort.

Cameron DeVries of Woodland Christian was third in the junior boys high jump at 1.80m.

Owen Wilson of Laurel Heights was third in the junior boys pole vault at 3.00m.

In other results, Sam Bondogo of Galt was sixth in the junior boys long jump, Haena Bae of Laurel Heights was sixth in the junior girls pole vault, Josh Aagaard of Resurrecti­on was fourth in the junior boys 3,000m, Anna Douma of Woodland Christian was fourth in the novice girls 800m and sixth in the 1,500m, North Chhatwal of Waterloo-Oxford was sixth in the novice boys 300m hurdles, Tessa Elliott of Galt was fifth in the novice girls 300m hurdles, Rachel Gibson of Laurel Heights was sixth in the senior girls pole vault, Hunter Brown of Elmira was sixth in the junior boys shot put, Mayada Abdella Hamad of Eastwood was fourth in the novice girls 80m hurdles, Joel Rumph of Woodland Christian finished fourth in the novice boys high jump, and Jamie Crawford of Elmira was fourth in the senior boys triple jump.

Bluevale’s team of Holden Grenke, Mac Roy, Yujiro Fujii and Henry Irvine were fourth in the 4x400m senior boys relay.
