Basketball court proposed as part of $200K project in Cambridge park
Replaced west end playground has inspired new build
A two-phase consultation will take place to hear from the public about the park amenities being proposed
Public consultation to replace a playground in Cambridge’s Sault Park has spawned another proposed play area as part of a more than $200,000 plan.
With the replaced playground found in the west end of the park, the City of Cambridge is looking what to do for a playground in the east end, located off McMeekin Drive.
The city stated after the original public consultation was completed in December that some respondents outlined a desire to play basketball in the neighbourhood. Though the equipment wasn’t originally planned for replacement on the west side of the park, the comments were taken into consideration as part of the new east side playground.
The project budget for the new Sault Park playground, already approved by council in the 2024 capital budget, is $217,800. The funding not only pays for playground equipment, but also encompasses all park works, including construction.
Part of the funding includes $30,000 donated by the Cambridge Highlands Lions Club, while the remaining $187,800 will be drawn from the capital levy.
The equipment will be installed with engineered wood fibre safety surfacing.
For the project, a two-phase consultation will take place to hear from the public about the park amenities being proposed. Respondents are asked to give feedback on the survey results that were received and provide additional suggestions.
The survey can be found at engagewr.ca/sault-park-east and will be open to April 30.
The city notes certain considerations will be taken into account when designing the park, such as the budget and maintenance of the amenities, but also ensuring there is a balance of activities for visitors to participate in.
