The Doobie Brothers headed for Kitchener

Reunited rock band will feature both its classic vocalists when it plays The Aud Oct. 9

Rock and Roll Hall of Famers The Doobie Brothers, who morphed from country-flecked hard-rockers into a blue-eyed soul behemoth without missing a beat — will touch down at Kitchener’s The Aud on Oct. 9 with both singers from its chart-topping classic era as part of a six show Canadian tour.

Unlike other golden age acts, The Doobies classic lineup remains mostly intact more than 50 years later, with lead singers Tom Johnston, who sang lead on songs like “Listen To The Music” and “Long Train Runnin’,” and Michael McDonald, who steered the band into jazzy yacht rock territory with songs like “What A Fool Believes” and “Minute By Minute.”

The current lineup also features guitarist/founding member Patrick Simmons, who sang lead on “Black Water,” guitarist/violinist John McFee, who originally joined in 1978, and four more recent touring members.

Beginning with their multi-million-selling sophomore disc “Toulouse Street,” the Doobies chocked up three multi-platinum, seven platinum and 14 gold albums, with “Best of the Doobies” selling more than 12 million copies — a rare “diamond record.”

In all, the band charted five Top 10 singles and 16 in the Top 40, including “China Grove,” “Jesus Is Just All Right,” “Rockin’ Down the Highway,” “Take Me In Your Arms,” “Takin’ It To The Streets” and their final Top 10, 1989’s “The Doctor.”

The four-time Grammy Award winners will play 44 cities across North America, including Atlanta, Dallas and New York City, before making their way to Canada for shows in Kitchener, London, Kingston, Quebec City, Laval and Saint John, N.B.

The 2024 Tour follows the Doobie Brothers 50th Anniversary Tour, which saw Johnston, McDonald, Simmons and McFee hit the road together for the first time in 25 years.

Ticket Prices for the Oct. 9 show are $80.25 — $135.75 and go on sale Friday May 10 at 10 a.m.
