FROM MELISSA: Our wedding day called for a 100 per cent chance of rain, so we prepared with pink rain boots and umbrellas for the entire wedding party. We were happily surprised when we saw sunshine on the morning of our wedding day. Mother Nature co-operated with us until we were done photos—the rain didn’t start until we were safely inside, married and partying. In the morning, after we were all ready, Justin and I snuck away with our photographer for our “first look.” This ended up being our favourite part of the day. Following the pictures, we had time to sit down together with the bridal party and our families for a drink. Having that time with our parents, siblings and best friends in the moments before our wedding was definitely special. Our ceremony was officiated by Justin’s childhood friend. It was his first time, and he did an amazing job. The ceremony was light and fun, which represented us perfectly. The Asian-fusion food we served was a huge hit with our guests, as was our venue Sidedoor’s amazing doughnuts and the sweet table created by my mom and friends. We finished the night by walking back to our hotel through downtown Ottawa in our wedding attire at 3 a.m.— we definitely attracted some attention!
