Layers of Love
Trisha Medina of Rococoa Butter used a different technique for each tier. Piped floral detailing, crackled texture and intricate fondant ruffles make this cake a showstopper. “This cake is a contrast between clean, monochromatic elegance, and detailed texture and the flow of nature,” Medina says.
White subway tiles were the inspiration for this modern geometric cake by Jen La of JENLA Cake. “The tiles were made from sugar and bent down the middle, which adds depth and dimension to the design, as well as creating everchanging shadow depending on where the light hits it,” La explains. A cascade of sugar orchids adds softness and romance to the cake.
shine on Allyson Bobbitt of Bobbette and Belle was inspired by a favourite Chanel dress for this cake featuring a sugar-paste trellis and petite, ruffled flowers. “We wanted to design a light, delicate appearance while still having lots of visual interest,” says Bobbitt. “Of course, few cakes are truly complete without a touch of sparkle, so we used small silver dragées and tiny Swarovski crystals as the finishing touches.” Kiss of Colour Amanda Foong Cakes incorporated just a hint of pale pink for this gorgeous cake that includes a variety of textured elements. Gold adds glam, while the bottom tier’s surprise geometric shape and pattern provide contrast between the layers. Sugar flowers on each side frame the cake beautifully and tie the palette together.
