CARYN SMALL & TONY LEITH
SEPTEMBER 20, 2014
FROM CARYN: We didn’t have a specific wedding theme at the outset as we felt the barn venue we chose was a beautiful backdrop in itself. We just wanted our day to feel like one big end-of-summer party for our guests and ourselves. My favourite moment was the first look I had with Tony. This is one of those rare times where you are truly alone with your husband-to-be. It was nice to take a few breaths and let it all sink in before our guests arrived and the ceremony began. One of the most important parts of our day was including elements that felt like ‘us’. I paid tribute to my hometown in South Africa by including gold spray-painted “big five” animals, and photos of trips to South Africa, where Tony proposed. My wonderful florist, Cedar & Stone, added lots of gorgeous protea flowers, which are indigenous to South Africa. Entertainment was another top priority. Watching duelling pianos has been a long-time hobby of ours, and we try to visit a piano bar every time we travel. Luckily, we have two talented friends who are duelling pianists and they agreed to perform at our wedding. They added an incredible amount of energy and fun to the party atmosphere, and were truly a highlight of the night.
