Cana­dian com­pany Korite is the of­fi­cial jew­elry sup­plier for Canada’s big birth­day. Their jew­elry fea­tures am­mo­lite gem­stone de­rived from am­monite, a nat­u­rally fos­silized ma­te­rial formed more than 70 mil­lion years ago. While am­monite fos­sils are found all over the world, Korite pres­i­dent Jay Maull says it’s only in south­ern Al­berta that the shell was pre­served and turned into the rain­bow-coloured gem­stone.
