Where Calgary - - DINING - —Hanna Deeves

Since 1997, the Rocky Mountain Wine and Food Festival has been bringing Calgarians and visitors alike, wines, beers, and spirits from around the globe, and they’re back in the city October 13 - 14.

The festival started with three Ontario beer representatives who wanted to bring a beverage trade show to Calgary. At its beginning, RMWFF hosted 30 booths for 1,000 attendees. Twenty years later, the event brings out hundreds of vendors for 25,000 guests, and grows every year.

Some of the drink vendors include Big Rock Brewery, Summit Fine Wines, Two Wolves Brewing, Black Stallion Spirits, Sleeman Breweries, and On The Rocks Liquor Agency.

To accompany the beverages, this festival also showcases Calgary’s best local cuisine, including Kinjo Sushi, Modern Steak, Paper St., and Sweet Tooth Ice Cream.

The festival works by way of sampling coupons, which are sold individually at the event for 50 cents a piece (in addition to cost of admission). Different food and drinks cost between one and 20 coupons, so attendees can try as little or as much as they want to satisfy their taste buds (page 35) .
