From tulips to su­per­heroes, Ot­tawa is abuzz

June 13-17 ot­tawa­ex­plo­sion.com A fes­ti­val of hard­core, punk, garage, and metal, Ot­tawa Ex­plo­sion Week­end en­lists dozens of bands from around the world to whip Ot­tawa into a frenzy. This mosh pit party takes over the newly ren­o­vated down­town Arts Court and sev­eral sur­round­ing venues this year. “OXW fea­tures great bands from the in­ter­na­tional DIY, un­der­ground mu­sic com­mu­nity,” says Fes­ti­val Di­rec­tor Em­manuel Sayer. “It’s a great place to dis­cover bands that are do­ing great things lo­cally and in­ter­na­tion­ally!” Head­lin­ers this year in­clude pop rock­ers Martha from Durham, U.K., Ot­tawa garage rock roy­alty, The White Wires, and that trio’s drum­mer Al­lie Han­lon, who will un­leash her power-pop ef­fer­ves­cence as front­woman to the L.A.based surf-rock band Peach Kelli Pop (June 15). Tickets start at $10.
