Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival
June 21-24 ottawasummersolstice.ca Peppered with picnic tables and mature trees, the sprawling Vincent Massey Park at Heron Road and Riverside Drive will serve as a beautiful backdrop to this year’s Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival. The four-day festival celebrates the diverse First Nations, Métis and Inuit cultures of the region, and National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21). “The Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival is a free and family-oriented event,” says Executive Director Trina Mather-Simard. “For 2018, we are excited to introduce two new programming features: an Indigenous culinary program with celebrity Indigenous chefs preparing a traditional long table feast and elegant samples.” The weekend will also feature an international Competition Pow Wow (June 23-24) showcasing dancers and singers, and several workshops, arts and crafts, and a marketplace.
