Sum­mer Sol­stice Indige­nous Fes­ti­val

June 21-24 ot­tawa­sum­mer­sol­stice.ca Pep­pered with pic­nic ta­bles and ma­ture trees, the sprawl­ing Vin­cent Massey Park at Heron Road and River­side Drive will serve as a beau­ti­ful back­drop to this year’s Sum­mer Sol­stice Indige­nous Fes­ti­val. The four-day fes­ti­val cel­e­brates the di­verse First Na­tions, Métis and Inuit cul­tures of the re­gion, and Na­tional Indige­nous Peo­ples Day (June 21). “The Sum­mer Sol­stice Indige­nous Fes­ti­val is a free and fam­ily-ori­ented event,” says Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor Trina Mather-Si­mard. “For 2018, we are ex­cited to in­tro­duce two new pro­gram­ming fea­tures: an Indige­nous culi­nary pro­gram with celebrity Indige­nous chefs pre­par­ing a tra­di­tional long ta­ble feast and el­e­gant sam­ples.” The week­end will also fea­ture an in­ter­na­tional Com­pe­ti­tion Pow Wow (June 23-24) show­cas­ing dancers and singers, and sev­eral work­shops, arts and crafts, and a mar­ket­place.
