Van­cou­verites aren’t known for their French-speak­ing skills, but there’s an easy way for fans of la belle langue to get their fix. Tableau (page 67) is an oa­sis of up­scale bistro charm, with sleek leather ban­quettes, check­ered floors and most menu items listed in French—with English sub­ti­tles, of course. Sip a glass of Ri­card as an aper­i­tif, warm up with clas­sic onion soup and then dig into the moules frites. If high-school French classes were this déli­cieux, we’d all be flu­ent.—Chloë Lai
