The folks up in Whistler have long known the glory of the Aus­tralian meat pie, all thanks to Peaked Pies (page 68). This ca­sual Aussie joint has the warm, hearty fare that après-ski dreams are made of. But their ad­dic­tive—and rainy-day friendly— pies are equally pop­u­lar here in Van­cou­ver. Fill­ings range from tra­di­tional ground beef and gravy, to ad­ven­tur­ous of­fer­ings such as kan­ga­roo in bal­samic re­duc­tion. Or­der your pie straight-up or “peaked,” that is, topped with a tower of mushy peas, mashed potato and gravy. Trust us: it’s the best meat pie this side of the Out­back.
