MY WHISTLER

-

NAME: Ashleigh McIvor OCCUPATION & EMPLOYER: Self employed at www.ashleighmcivor.com (athlete, speaker, model) HOW LONG YOU HAVE LIVED IN WHISTLER: My whole life!

Favourite ski run:

Favourite drive: Well I’m getting pretty good at racing up and down the gorgeous Sea-to-Sky Highway. I’ve been doing it up to 4 times a week to fit my training in Whistler, while living in Vancouver with my man. Good thing, because he just decided to propose! Totally worth it.

Logger’s Lake. I’m not much of a fisher(wo)man but I’ve iced fished there in the winter and

Favourite custom/tradition: Christmas tree hunting, skiing with my whole family bright and early on Christmas Day, and all my friends bright and early on New Year’s Day. Nobody ever goes up on those days!

Favourite Canadian product: Growers Cider. I just love them; I can’t help it! You can’t get cider anywhere else in the world. It’s just a BC thing and I love all of the flavours—so much more than beer.

Favourite Canadian artist:

Favourite place for après: The GLC or Dusty’s. I live in Creekside, so I end up at Dusty’s for the early après shift a lot, and then head into the Village to the GLC for their killer party scene. Unless I’m just dying for a “Gold Standard” while I’m shredding. Then I have to go straight to the GLC.

Sarah McLachlan. She’s amazingly talented and I hear she’s a lot of fun.

Favourite place to people watch: Great people watching from the Citta’ patio. It’s just such a central intersection that there is always good action.

Favourite place to splurge:

Favourite nightspot: It’s funny how it used to always change, but now Tommy’s [Tommy Africa’s Nightclub] is my go-to pretty consistently. The best nights are when one of my favorite DJs is playing at the GLC and then we all go to Tommy’s when it closes at 1.

Favourite date place: I like the patio at The Mix [by Ric’s in the Crystal Lodge]. They have great heaters out there so you can sit outside comfortably and watch people cruise by on the Village Stroll in a nice dark cozy environment.

Peak to Creek. You just can’t beat 5,000 vertical feet of fall line skiing.

Favourite place to take in nature: When I was little, it was along the River of Golden Dreams. Now I’m trying to pick a favourite to get married at. I love how mossy it is in the Emerald Forest (behind the gravel pit at the base of Lorimer Rd.). There are swans on the pond in there in the winter.

Favourite fishing spot: it was amazing.

Favourite place to take your guests: I’ve been known to take people on crazy adventures into thick trees on skis or bushwhacking hike-a-bike epics, some of which work out, some of which become a bit of a mission, but they always have a great story to tell at the end of their trip.

Favourite place to catch the sunset:

The Bearfoot Bistro. It’s just so incredibly delicious and I’m a big fan of sabering Champagne in Andre’s cellar.

Lucky you live in Whistler because… there really isn’t anything else like it in the whole world. And to be one of the few who was born and raised here, just makes it that much more special.

Sunsets from the peak of Blackcomb or Whistler are unreal. Like, literally, they look like they’re photoshopped into photos if you can capture them.

If you were a visitor, you would want to know… make friends. Most of us Whistlerites are very friendly and enjoy showing our visitors the time of their lives.
