Alpine Warmers Fireside

-

With its terrace bordering the Magic Chair area on Blackcomb and spectacular views of Whistler Mountain, you can literally ski right on to The Mallard Lounge’s patio, hang up your skis (or pass them to the valet, if you’re a Fairmont guest) and stroll in for a drink. The Mallard Lounge’s Alpine Warmers are a popular choice, and the perfect start to your après ski.

Bartender Mikal Wild deftly whips up these tasty creations, including The After Dinner Mint, a hot chocolate base with Absolut Vanilia and peppermint schnapps, served with chocolate shavings and whipped cream. The Avalanche is a coffee blend of crème de cacao, Baileys and caramel syrup, with whipped cream and a sugar rim. “Both are a little sweet, but that’s what people like in the wintertime …WkHy’UH JRRG DOWHUQDWLYHV WR WkH UHJXODU 0RQWH &ULVWRV and Spanish Coffees,” says Wild.

Wild personally prefers a lighter drink, and there are several on the menu. His favourite is the Scotch and Berries, featuring Dewar’s scotch, crème de cassis and cherry juice, topped with hot water.

When it’s time to warm up after a long day on the slopes, sit by the fireplace at The Mallard Lounge and let the après begin with a delicious Alpine Warmer and discover for yourself why this is a gem of a place for après. The Mallard Lounge at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler (604) 938-8000.
