You’ve probably heard of fly fishing before, but how about flying to go fishing? Just like skiers and snowboarders searching for untouched snow in the mountains, fishing guides are using helicopters or float planes to access remote lakes and rivers deep in B. C.’ s backcountry. Deep in the mountains lie an infinite number of streams, rivers and alpine lakes that weave their way through the backcountry. Their remote locations ensure a good supply of fish and most importantly, a small number of anglers. The only thing that makes an anglers life even better than casting into a scenic, isolated fishing hole is taking a helicopter or float plane to get there and back! For the ultimate fishing experience, check out a fly- in backcountry fishing tour and combine two classic B. C. adventures into one amazing day. Several local companies offer trips from Whistler, which are sure to put an exciting spin on your typical day of fly fishing. Clint Goyette has owned and operated Valley Fishing Guides since 2000. Growing up in small- town Ontario where Goyette says there “wasn’t a lot to do” he learned how to fish from his father, uncle and family friends. He was instantly hooked, and pursued the dream of becoming a fishing guide. “You’re where no- one else is going to be that day,” explains Goyette. “So the river’s pretty much all yours, and the fish have probably never seen a fly or the gear you’re using.”
