JULIA MURRAY AND DAVEY BARR- WHISTLER BLACKCOMB’S ‘ SKI WITH AN OLYMPIAN’ PROGRAM
Whistler’s Julia Murray fell into skiing early in life, eventually joining Canada’s national Ski Cross team in 2007. Murray now headlines the ‘ Ski with an Olympian’ program with partner Davey Barr at Whistler Blackcomb, a highlevel instruction program where skiers can get private lessons or guiding from former Olympic competitors. Murray says it all starts from the ground up. “Ski with your feet. My Dad, Crazy Canuck Dave Murray, was a deep thinker and analyzed everything about skiing. This was one of his most important tips. Skiing with your feet simply means to let them be the root of your movement down the hill. If you are centered on your feet, and in your boots, your body will react like a cat to the terrain. Start the turn by thinking of your toes and feet; then your legs, core and upper body will have an easier time adapting to the mountain beneath you.”
