An Alpine Oasis

-

Hiking the Rainbow Lake Trail is without a doubt a “must- do”. Just as loved by locals as it is by tourists, the trail offers several attractive features such as creek bridges, waterfalls and panoramic views across the valley towards Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. The first attraction along the trail is Rainbow Falls. Located just 500 metres from the Rainbow Lake trailhead, it’s an easily accessible but rewarding viewpoint. Hikers who continue on will pass Gin and Tonic Lakes on their way to Rainbow Lake: a beautiful alpine oasis situated about 8km into the trail. Madeley Lake can be reached via the Madeley Loop, a continuation of the Rainbow Lake trail which carries on for another several kilometres. For those who manage the distance, camping and fishing are available at Madeley Lake.

Hikers should be aware that the Rainbow Lake Trail bisects Whistler’s watershed, and there are regulations to follow, because the area supplies Whistler’s drinking water! Camping, swimming and fishing are prohibited at Rainbow Lake. Pets and motorized vehicles are prohibited on the trail and as always, pack out what you pack in.
