Get Up, Stand- Up, Paddle Away

-

Stand- Up Paddleboarding ( or SUP) has exploded in popularity in recent years all over the globe, proving to be both a great fullbody workout and a fun activity that nearly anyone can do. While SUP was first invented on ocean waves in Hawaii, the easy nature of lake paddling has brought the sport to many non- coastal areas. Here in the Sea to Sky Corridor there are some great waterways to explore, and Whistler’s Alta, Alpha, and Lost Lakes are all popular spots for SUP. Escape Route sells and rents ‘ Boardworks’ stand- up paddleboards and accessories, and holds weekly SUP demos at Alice Lake in Squamish. They will also be starting a Whistler race series this summer on Alta Lake, open to all skill levels. Backroads Whistler provides SUP equipment rentals and lessons at their Lakeside Park Watersports Centre on Alta Lake, supplying Whistler based Kahuna paddleboards. They have a large fleet of various sized SUP’s available, with a board suitable for everyone. Whistler Eco Tours offers SUP lessons and yoga classes from Alta Lake’s Wayside Park. They also host guided SUP tours along the River of Golden Dreams, suitable for more experienced paddlers.
