How is It Doing?

-

The Downy Woodpecker population is actually increasing! One thing to keep in mind, though, is that it’s habitat (forests) can be under pressure from human activities, like logging. It also has many predators, like the American Kestrel, the Sharp-Shinned Hawk, and the Cooper’s Hawk. All these birds can capture a Downy while it’s flying. Its eggs can also be eaten by squirrels and snakes.
