Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne made 30 saves for his second shutout, Marcel Goc scored twice and the Predators ended Montreal's four-game winning streak with a 2-0 victory Thursday night.

Former Spitfire Cal O'Reilly also scored for the Predators.

Khabibulin out

Nikolai Khabibulin, the Edmonton Oilers overworked goaltender, will spend the next week on the injured reserve list.

The veteran left Wednesday’s 5-0 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks with a groin injury.

Martin Gerber was called up and will likely backup Devan Dubnyk tonight the Phoenix Coyotes.

Captain Ladd

The Atlanta Thrashers named forward Andrew Ladd as team captain.

“Andrew Ladd will be that guy,” coach Craig Ramsay told the Atlanta JournalCon­stitution.

“It’s responsibi­lity, but he’s well respected.”

Jokinen suspended

Calgary Flames forward Olli Jokinen will watch the next three games from the press box.

The NHL handed down a three-game suspension Thursday, following his Wednesday night cross-check on Phoenix Coyotes’ Wojtek Wolski in the neck/face in a third-period melee near the benches.

Leighton cleared

Ex-Spitfire Michael Leighton (back surgery) has been cleared to practise by Philadelph­ia Flyers team doctors.

The Flyers are expected to place Brian Boucher on waivers to make room for Leighton.
