Plane crashes in field, 3 dead in Pickering

PICKERING Three people are dead after a single-engine plane crashed on Thursday night in a rural area 35 kilometres east of Toronto.

Police were called at about 7 p.m. after the plane went off the radar at Pearson International Airport, Durham Regional Police said.

“We sent our helicopter, it confirmed the location and the finding of the aircraft,” said Sgt. Nancy van Rooy.

Police were forced to wait for lighting equipment before investigating the farmer’s field where the plane went down because it was dark, said Staff Sgt. Loxley Colqhoun.

About three hours after the initial call to police, van Rooy confirmed that everybody on board the aircraft had died.

The names of the victims were not known late Thursday night.
