Boy, 3, spends hours alone in frigid cold
EDMONTON A three-year-old boy wearing just a long-sleeved shirt, pants and his mother’s shoes was found outside alone on an Edmonton street Friday morning, police say.
Paramedics picked up the crying preschooler after a woman waiting at a bus stop shortly before 8:30 a.m. saw him standing outside, alone, in temperatures around -20 C, said police spokeswoman Patrycia Thenu.
“He obviously wasn’t dressed properly for the weather. I guess his mom had stepped out to take a couple of the other kids to school while this little boy was sleeping,” said Thenu. “He ended up waking up while she was gone and went outside to look for Mom. He put (on) Mom’s shoes and ran outside.”
Paramedics took the boy to hospital for a checkup, Thenu said.
“He doesn’t have any frostbite or anything like that. He was just cold.”
Police said no charges will be laid.
