Man charged after pet lion’s escape bid

HUNTSVILLE Animal protection authoritie­s have charged a Huntsville man after his pet lion tried to escape its enclosure.

The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says the central Ontario municipali­ty has no rules governing exotic pets. But it notes provincial laws require wildlife held in captivity be kept in a secure pen.

The OSPCA says the lion has since been moved to a facility where it can be properly housed.

Second man charged in London shooting

LONDON A second man has been arrested and charged with murder, and a warrant has been issued for a third in a deadly shooting in London last weekend. Police say Terrell Johnson, 21, died in hospital after being shot in downtown London around 3 a.m. on Sunday. An unidentifi­ed 28-year-old man was injured in the incident and has been released from hospital. Dominique Mossel, 20, of London was arrested Wednesday and is charged with second-degree murder and weapons charges. Joshua Carter, 22, was charged with second-degree murder on Sunday. A warrant on charges of second-degree-murder, aggravated assault and weapons offences has been issued for 21-year-old Darrien Hinkson-Harris of Kitchener.

Driver injured in tractor-trailer crash

KINGSTON A man is seriously hurt after a crash that saw a tractor-trailer carrying canned pumpkin dump part of its load on Highway 401 near Kingston. Provincial police say the truck smashed into the cement median Tuesday night and skidded along the barrier before it burst into flames. The 48-year-old Brampton driver was ejected from the truck.
