Teno earns LPGA honour

-

Tecumseh native Christa Teno has been named the Ladies Professional Golfers Association’s (LPGA) 2012 Southeast Section Coach of the Year.

Teno, who leads the Seminole State College (Florida) women’s golf program, guided her squad to the school’s first NJCAA Region 8 Championship. Seminole State went on to finish second at the NJCAA National Championship in May.

“It’s amazing to receive this award for doing something I love – coaching,” said Teno, who also is the golf pro at Walk about Golf Club in Mims, Fla.

“My life is blessed. I want to thank all the kids I’ve coached as well. They have been my teachers.” In the five years since the inception of the school’s women’s golf progam, Teno has guided Seminole State to two fourth-place finishes, one third and a second at the NJCAA tournament.

“It reflects the quality and dedication coach Teno puts forth in making the women’s golf program here at Seminole State respected across the nation,” Seminole State’s athletic director John Scarpino said.

“She works hard to represent our College and our athletics department.”

Teno will compete for national coach of the year honour against the other four regional winners.

It’s the second time Teno has won the regional coaching award (2008).

The awards are given out by the membership of the LPGA’s Teaching and Club Professionals to coaches who are active in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
