Wetech adds mentors

- DAVE HALL Business Scene

Building a strong mentorship network is critical if young entrepreneurs are to be successful in launching their businesses, says the CEO and president of the WEtech Alliance.

“Providing mentorship services and advice to our clients is the most valuable service we offer,” said Karen Behune Plunkett in announcing a new roster of mentors Wednesday. “We focus on information technology and innovation, and all of our mentors have extensive experience in those areas. It’s taken us about eight months to put together this roster, and we’re very pleased with those who have come on board.”

The mentors include Frank Abbruzzese of AlphaKOR Group, Lori Newton of Lori Newton Consulting, Omer Hageniers of MSCI Ltd., Maurice Marwood of MMARCO International Services, David Kirby of Pharma Vision Technology, Shelley Fellows of Radix Inc., Gilbert Iovino of ITW Welding North America and consultant Bob Cikalo.

The alliance previously matched entrepreneurs with mentors such as Rob Whent and Deborah Livneh, the organization’s entrepreneurs-inresidence, but now has a larger roster to call upon.

“It’s often lonely at the top, especially for a young entrepreneur, and oftentimes there’s nobody to bounce ideas off,” said Behune Plunkett. “Our program is designed to provide that audience and provide guidance as well.”

In other WEtech news, Yvonne Pilon has been promoted to vice-president and will be responsible for organization strategies and expanded services. She was previously director of programs and communications.
