Windsor building permits on a roll
Fuelled by government and institutional construction, the value of building permits issued by the City of Windsor so far this year is almost double that of a year ago.
With government and institutional leading the way with $141 million in permits, the value issued this year was $239,370,866 through the first nine months, compared with $122,069,387 last year.
Last year, government and institutional permits hit $43.7 million by the end of September.
Residential permits have increased to $63.2 million, from $42 million, and commercial have eased up to $28.5 million, from $23.2 million, while industrial have dropped to $6.6 million, from $13.1 million.
Permit values are on a pace to exceed $300 million for the first time since 2006.
Leading projects listed for September were construction of a fitness centre and offices at St. Clair College, for $21 million; Canada Border Services Agency buildings at 31 Park St. E., for $1.775 million; a new restaurant to replace Citrine at Devonshire Mall, for $1.1 million; storm sewers at Transit Windsor’s terminal, for $850,000; an A&W Restaurant at 4140 Walker Rd., for $650,000; an addition and a loading dock for the Electromac Group at 1965 Ambassador Dr., for $300,000; and renovations to the Unemployed Help Centre at 6875 Cantelon Dr., for $266,000.
