Personalized dentistry at South Star

-

W hen Dr. Farhad K. Shahian opened South Star Family Dental early this year, he introduced his patients to a different philosophy of practice.

“I want to provide my patients with personalized dentistry. I do root canals, fillings, extractions and cleaning,” Dr. Shahian continues. “This involvement helps me know my patients, so I can fully understand their needs and expectations. In my practice, it helps me provide better care.”

At South Star Family Dental, personalized dentistry means that they will take their time to answer any questions and concerns and review all treatment options for each patient during the free consultation appointment. They also accommodate new patients for emergency treatment including evenings and weekends.

This kind of personalized service is what sets Dr. Shahian apart, and word of his soft-spoken manner and tailored, intricate care has already reached a growing number of patients.

Dr. Shahian combines old-style care with the state-of-the-art technology he has adopted for his clinic. It’s the perfect combination for those looking for a dentist in whom they can trust not only their smile, but their overall health.

“It’s been established that your general health is impacted by your oral care,” says Dr. Shahian. “Our mouth is full of bacteria and researchers have established a direct link between oral health and the cardiovascular system. Also, in pregnant women who have gum disease, it can result in low birth weight of the child and premature labour.

South Star Family Dental utilizes a dental laser to treat gum disease as well as many other conditions including canker sores.

He adds: “It is so vital for people not to neglect their oral health.”

With an undergraduate degree and a PhD in developmental genetics from the University of Windsor, as well as a dental degree from the University of Detroit Mercy, Dr. Shahian is a published author and an adjunct professor at the University of Detroit Mercy’s School of Dentistry. His passion for education extends beyond the classroom; he’s eager to share with each and every patient his depth of knowledge, and hopes that everyone learns something from every visit.

Families are a significant portion of his practice. Children are made to feel welcome and at ease with our friendly staff. “I encourage and educate all patients, regardless of age, on the importance of prevention of tooth decay. I feel obligated professionally and ethically to help every patient receive the highest standard of care possible.”

South Star Family Dental is located at 9833 Tecumseh Rd. E. For a limited time, all new patients who receive an exam and an x-ray will also have their choice of free whitening, night guard or team logo sports guard. Call 519-735-7600 for your free consultation.
