CHRIS THOMPSON A seven-year-old boy suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to hospital in Detroit after a crash near Windsor Airport Thursday.

Three adults were also hurt in the three-vehicle accident on County Road 42.

The Windsor police accident reconstruction unit was at the scene probing the crash.

Emergency crews were called to the T-intersection of County Road 42 and Concession 8 southeast of Windsor Airport at around 5:45 p.m. after a westbound silver Chevrolet Cavalier made a left turn into the path of an oncoming pickup truck.

A woman who was travelling east two vehicles behind the blue Ford F-150 pickup said the car turned into the truck’s path.

“It was their fault,” said the woman, who declined to give her name.

“I don’t know what he could have been thinking. I just don’t. I don’t know if he thought it was a stop. I don’t know. There’s nothing that man could have done in that blue truck. Not a single thing.”

The truck struck the right rear passenger side door where the boy was sitting.

“There was a little boy in the back seat there, he was hurt really bad,” said the woman, who said the boy was unconscious and never regained consciousness before he was taken from the scene.

The driver of the Cavalier, a female front seat passenger and the driver of the pickup were all taken to hospital, the woman said.

A third vehicle, a black Pontiac Sunfire travelling behind the truck, appeared to have struck the truck without sustaining major damage.

The pickup driver couldn’t get out of his truck.

“He was up against the dash there,” the woman said.

“He couldn’t move. They had to pull him out.”

The boy was taken to HotelDieu Grace Hospital and later transferred to Children’s Hospital in Detroit.

County Road 42 was closed in both directions between Windsor Airport and Concession 9.
