Taxpayers back Eddie Francis

- BRUCE WILLS, Windsor

Since the 2010 municipal elections ended, The Windsor Star has published many letters telling the readers to get rid of Eddie Francis. I think that sufficient time has passed that the whining and complaining about Eddie, particularly by those employed by the City of Windsor, comes to an end.

Even though all of the garbagemen were given other assignments within the City according to their education and skills, they probably all ended up in the Parks Department.

In case Eddie’s detractors think their candidate came close, the election results are still available online as a memory refresher if they can stand the pain. The union representatives on council didn’t fare too well, either.

Ron Jones won on a recount by three votes and Ken Lewenza Jr. got put back to the job his father gave him.

It’s time municipal employees started to work with their employer instead of continually complaining. There’s still talk about how the ex-garbagemen haven’t adjusted to their new jobs in the Parks Department.

I see my current garbagemen weekly and they not only do a really good job, they actually appear to be thankful for having the job, period, in spite of knowing their wages and benefits are lower than the former city garbagemen.

Having come from other private sector jobs, no doubt the new garbagemen understand that with a Grade 12 diploma and no real marketable skills, their wages and benefits are just fine.

The taxpayers back Eddie and the disgruntled employees should either do their job and quit complaining, or quit their job and look for another job with their education and skills.

Although their sense of entitlement runs high, their real worth in the marketplace will certainly come as a shock.
