Lasers on cruise control
Schincariol leads Lancers fastpitch team
Jay Perisic and Benji Dagousse both scored two touchdowns as the St. Joseph Lasers cruised to a 44-8 victory over the L’Essor Aigles Thursday in WECSSAA football action.
Perisic scored on a sevenyard run and later added another TD on a three-yard rush. Dagousse scored on a 30-yard interception and also ran in a touchdown on a 60-yard punt return.
Caleb Uddyback had a oneyard TD run and Austyn Perisic connected with Dario Tosku on a 65-yard touchdown pass for the Lasers. Juan Ortiz made six converts.
In other action, Calwin French had two touchdowns in Riverside’s 34-6 win over the Assumption Purple Raiders.
Harry Rana scored on a 30-yard run and later added a second touchdown on a 20yard rush and Gurbir Dhindsa reeled in a 30-yard TD pass for the Rebels. Amir Dauti made four extra points.
Girls basketball
Sarah Bondy scored a gamehigh 19 points to lead Amherst to a 57-36 win over Lajeunesse in Tier I senior girls basketball action Thursday.
Aleah Marton added 14 points and Christine Belcher chipped in with 10 points for Amherst. Sara Bondy led Lajeunesse with 15 points.
In other action, Carly Steer netted 18 points, Ayoleka Sodade had 12 points and Nicole Tamm added 10 points as the Holy Names Knights defeated the Essex Red Raiders 56-31.
Sydney Booth had 16 points in Kingsville’s 42-31 victory over St. Joseph.
Aigles perfect
Sophie Glanz scored 11 points as the L’Essor Aigles remained unbeaten with a 37-23 victory over the Sandwich Sabres Thursday in Tier II senior girls basketball. The Aigles improved to 4-0. In other action, Julia Bavaqua scored 16 points in Assumption’s 44-21 win over Herman.
Amanda Ingratta netted 14 points and Alessua Zonta chipped in with 10 points as Cardinal Carter edged Brennan 36-32.
Krista Lagasse scored 10 points as the Catholic Central Comets beat the Massey Mustangs 38-26.
Pro hoops
Tecumseh’s Brittany Hedderson left Thursday to play professional basketball in Finland.
Hedderson, who spent the summer with a pro team in Thailand, has joined Turun Riento Turku in Finland’s top division for women.
The season opens Saturday against PeKa.
Junior B
The first- place Leamington Flyers dropped a 3-2 decision against the London Nationals in junior b hockey in Leamington Thursday.
Chris Scott and David Dalby scored goals and rookie netminder Matt Mancina made 31 saves for the Flyers, who have a two-point lead on Chatham, London and LaSalle.
Leamington will host Caledonia Saturday at 2:20 p.m.
Blues swept
Kelsey Schincariol led the women’s fastpitch team at the University of Windsor to three wins on the weekend.
The Lancers swept the Toronto Varsity Blues Saturday, winning 5-4 and 4-3.
In the first game, Schincariol and Erica Ruccolo both went 2-for-3, while Rachel Wood and Stephanie Bouchey had two RBIs apiece.
Heather Metcalfe was 3-for5 with an RBI double for the Lancers in the second game. Becky Lazarus went 2-for-4 and Schincariol was the winning pitcher with 10 strikeouts.
Sunday, the Lancers split with the Guelph Gryphons, winning the first game 5-2 and losing the second 9-8.
Schincariol had six strikeouts in the first game. Sarah Meeke went 2-for-3 with a tworun triple and Samantha Sidoli had a two-run double.
Today, the Lancers will play a doubleheader against Waterloo at Forest Glade Park. The first game starts at 5 p.m.
Saints victory
The women’s fastball team at St. Clair (9-3) defeated winless Mohawk 10-9 Thursday.
The Saints will host OCAAleading Durham for a doubleheader Oct. 13 and complete their regular season schedule against Humber Oct. 14.
First-place battle
First place is on the line when the St. Clair Saints host the Fanshawe Falcons today in an OCAA men’s soccer match at the United Communities Credit Union Complex in Amherstburg at 4:30 p.m.
In their final regular season home game, the Saints can tie the Falcons for first with a victory. St. Clair is 4-1-1.
Web.com Tour
Kingsville’s Richard Scott fired a six-over 76 in the opening round of the PGA Web.com Tour’s Neediest Kids Championship Thursday in Potomac, Maryland.
Scott, who sits 45th in the tour’s money standings, had one birdie on the opening day.
American Jason Gore leads the tournament after shooting a seven-under 63.
Local ace
Kristyn Gendreau used a nineiron to ace the 91-yard fifth hole at Ambassador.
Elizabeth Skowby and Lee Battie were the witnesses.
Chicago race
Jordan Langridge was the top St. Clair runner at the 40th annual Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational in Chicago on the weekend.
He finished the eight- km course at Chicago’s Montrose Beach in 28:09 (235th out of 456 runners).
Other St. Clair runners included Bart Musiaolowizc (32:12), Nick McNulty (34:17), Tim Brown (34:45) and Michael Mannina (36:02).
Kodi Morgan was St. Clair’s lone female entry, finishing the five-km loop in a time of 20:51 (283rd out of 514 runners).
Bluegrass Stakes
Thinking Out Loud, trained by LaSalle’s Bob McIntosh, captured a $75,000 division of the Bluegrass Stakes for threeyear-old pacing colts and geldings Sept. 29 at The Red Mile in Lexington, Ky.
McIntosh’s Shelliscape won a $75,000 Bluegrass division for $75,000 division of the Bluegrass Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies.
