Tories try to take credit for bridge

- DAVE L. ROBERTS, Windsor

Re: Masse should back the new bridge, by Joshua Cheifetz, Oct. 2.

Josh stated that “in an attempt to take credit for a project he knows is good for Windsor, he made an announcement that there should be a bike path. Brian Masse should stand up for the bridge and the City of Windsor.”

On the contrary, the reality is quite opposite. It is the Conservative government that has attempted to take credit for the bridge project that Brian Masse has been working on since about 2001 when he was just a city councillor.

The Conservatives, as they have done many times in the past, have successfully altered reality to suit their political agenda.

They remind me of the Republicans in the U.S., scandal after scandal, questionable ethics and very little transparency.

It is no wonder you thought the Harper government was responsible for bringing the bridge to Windsor because that is exactly what it wanted you to believe.

If anything, it is the Conservative government that is responsible for the bridge taking this long to get approved. They have known about it for over 10 years.

If Windsor was not such a pro-NDP city, then we would have seen changes a long time ago. Protecting business interest is way more important to the Conservatives than the people of Windsor.

It is easy to blame Mulroney for the bridge taking so long, but the Conservatives could have done what they did now, years ago. The only problem is, it was not beneficial to them a few years ago.

Give credit where credit is due.
