Having enjoyed a successful opening weekend at home, the Windsor Express now take a shot at life on the road in the National Basketball League of Canada.

The Express travel to Oshawa for a Saturday game against the Power at the GM Centre at 7 p.m..

Windsor debuted in the NBL with a 111-105 victory over the

“WE LET ONE SLIP AWAY AGAINST THEM.”

Halifax Rainmen last Friday before losing 84-83 to the Power the next night at the WFCU Centre.

“After the euphoria of Friday, I knew a let down was possible,” Windsor coach Bill Jones said. “It was the first time we’ve faced back-to-back games. You’ve got to be mentally ready because physically you’re just drained.”

The Express fell behind 18 points before staging a furious rally against the Power.

“With all the energy from Friday night, I wanted to think my legs were just as fresh (Saturday) which wasn’t the case,” Express point guard Mike Helms said.

“We didn’t shoot the ball well until the last five or six minutes of the fourth quarter and we missed a chance to go 2-0. It’s something you learn from and try not to make the same mistake twice.”

Through two games, Helms sits fourth in league scoring with a 24 points per game average.

“It’s been a while since I’ve had to play back-to-back games,” said Helms, who was out of basketball almost two years until the Express came calling. “You have to find ways around it, be a little bit smarter and learn to conserve your energy.”

Jushay Rockett led the Power against Windsor with 14 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks.

“We let one slip away against them,” Jones said. “It’s easier to prepare this time, especially since we’re playing against a team we just faced.”

The Power have a game Thursday in London and then celebrate their home opener Saturday against the Express.
