Jason kept all calm at accident

-

Re: Both occupants ejected as vehicle rolls for 300 yards, by Joel Boyce, Nov. 4. My name is Linda. Yes I was one of many at the young man’s side. I was in the back of Crown Transportation Van when Jason, the driver saw the car coming from behind us and slowed down and pulled over. If he didn’t we could have been involved in the accident. His first concern was my parents.

But when he saw the car roll over he knew we needed to pull over. Jason called 911 while I ran to the young man’s side. Jason quickly joined me. He kept his hand on the young man’s pulse while I focused on his shallow breathing and bleeding from his head. Many people gathered around the young man. Jason tried to keep everyone calm.

Another woman showed up and didn’t think she felt a pulse. I stopped breathing for the young man and Jason calmly said, “Yes, he has a pulse but his breathing is still shallow, Linda, keep breathing for him.” He kept the situation as calm as he could under the circumstances.

After EMS showed up and took over my focus turned toward my wheelchair parents in the van. We were on our way out for dinner. I wanted stimulation for them but not that kind. Since we were first on scene we had to stay until the police had taken our statements.

Mr. and Mrs. Jackson let me use their bathroom to wash up and also supplied my parents with snacks until we were able to leave.

Many people were concerned about the young man and everyone tried to help. My brother Gary gave up his winter jacket so I had something to stop the bleeding. I was not alone in giving this young man aid until EMS showed up.
